Manifestations of dissociation are found in many cultures, both Western and Asian, and in a range of mental states and disorders.

Join us for a combination of scholarly presentations and cultural activities in the village of Ubud, Bali, a beautiful island in the Indonesian archipelago, with a distinct Hindu culture, unique to this world. Located in the Hills of Bali, surrounded by terraced rice paddies and tropical forests, Ubud is at the center of a group of arts and crafts villages featuring painters, sculptors, woodworkers, stone masons, silversmiths and goldsmiths, each village dedicated to a particular craft or art-form.

The 4-day conference begins with a welcoming reception at the Alila Ubud Hotel on Monday evening, January 16th with an introductory presentation by renowned ethnologist Rucina Ballinger. During the conference, papers will be presented each morning & afternoon, followed by discussion between members of the audience and the presenters. Late afternoons and evenings will be free for you to explore Ubud, where you can join local tours, go shopping, dine in one of its famous cafes or just stroll the streets and experience Balinese culture. On the last evening of the conference, Thursday, January 19th, there will be an optional festive Balinese banquet and performance in the private estate of Linda Garland, an internationally recognized interior designer and founder of the Bamboo Foundation.

For those who would like to bring guests to Bali, quests who will not attend the conference, there is a full array of activities planned. See our Bali conference update for more information.
